When it comes to rc boat racing there is a lot of debate and confusion as to what options you may have when purchasing an rc boat. Depending on how you want the boat to perform on the water, your choice of a jet rc boat should not be taken lightly.

RC boats that are built around nitro often come with a number of engine parts that can break down and be quite expensive to replace. Gas rc boats then become instantly more reliable and will last longer. If something does go wrong, the parts for a gasoline engine are much easier to find and replace.

One primary reason many people become enthusiastic about radio controlled boats is to become part of the RC boat racing circuit. After all, radio controlled boat racing is fast, exciting, and fun. If you’re wondering how to get started in this exciting part of the hobby, these tips may help.
First, you may want to consider joining a radio control boat hobby club or another similar organization. Most major cities have a chapter of some sort, and joining one will not only help you find information on the races in your area, but you’ll also make some valuable contacts and get a bit of practice while you’re at it.
Once you hear about a race, the first thing you’ll want to do is call for details. If it’s a new venue for you or you’ve never been to that particular race in the past, you’ll need a complete copy of the rules as well as directions and race times. It’s important to note that most racers are expected to do some of the work as well such as timekeeping and the like, so you need to know what is to be expected of you before you head out.
As you begin to prepare both you and your radio controlled boats for the race, you have to keep several things in mind. First, you must consider the general maintenance of your radio controlled boat. More often than not, a racer or two will show up only to put their boat in the water with no response. The health of your boat is, obviously, the key to winning. To that end, you may want to make a checklist to help you remember what to do with your boat every single time you take it out of the water. Once you’re done, strip it and make sure that the drive line is oiled. You’ll want to check your radio to ensure it isn’t contaminated.
Lubrication is essential with each linkage. Check the motor’s bearings, and oil those as well. If it is possible to reach the brushes, make certain you take a look at them. Do they move freely? If they’re damaged, you must replace them. Evaluate your hull closely. Don’t forget to look at the rudder as well. Once you’re done, store your electric radio controlled boat carefully, but don’t forget about the battery. You may want to charge and discharge them before you store them for a long period of time, and follow your manufacturer’s instructions. Your radio is just as important in this process. Most racers like NiCad batteries better than dry cells because they seem to have better range and less interference, but do your research carefully before you make the switch.
Keep in mind that before race day, you’ll need to go through the entire checklist again. Most racers have both a pre- and post-race checklist, and you may find yourself continually adding to it as your racing career grows.
Practice is perhaps the other single most important part of the equation. You simply cannot win radio controlled boat races if you’re not willing to practice. It’s best to buy some buoys for your practice area, and you can create your own little course thanks to the buoys. Get a feel for speeding around each buoy at a different angle. Carefully evaluate how your boat responds to your controls. Remember that you’ll have other radio controlled boats with you, so understanding how to maneuver around them is essential. You may want to enlist the help of three or four friends to help you get ready for race day.
In addition to practicing, you may want to attend other races to watch the individuals you’ll be competing against. Just as professional sports players watch hours of footage of their opponents, watching your opponents will give you a feel for how they work with their radio controlled boats. Thinking about the individuals you’ll be racing against will help you plan a bit of strategy for given situations.
Finally, don’t expect to win your first race. Keep in mind that as you race, you’ll learn key techniques that will help you in the future, so treat those initial race forays as research expeditions for future races where you’re sure to be crowned the champion.
